NOVEMBER(Ho Chi Minh City): The Magic Flute

Ho Chi Minh City’s first opera performance sold out before the opening night.

Saturday November 8th is the premiere of The Magic Flute in the famous Opera House. The performance is a collaboration between the Norwegian cultural development program Transposition, and the opera company HBSO – Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera.


MAY (Ho Chi Minh City): The Creation

Haydn’s Creation has its Vietnam premier on May 8 and 9, with support from Transposition. Lars Notto Birkeland returns to conduct this major oratorio, starring Cho Hae Ryong, Erlend Tvinnereim, Ngoc Tuyen Vo, Thanh Nga Nguyen Thi and Halvor Mellien.


JUNE (Fagernes): Students at the Valdres Sommersymfonien

Do Phuong Nhi will attend the Sommersymfonien in Valdres with another young student from VNAM.

The project includes the following activities:

-Participating in the BARDUS Symphony Orchestra

– Group rehearsals

– Master Classes

-Focus on yoga and relaxation methods for musicians


JUNE (Oslo): Young string talents, part 2

Do Phuong Nhi will be back in Norway for training at the Barratt Due Institute, prior to her attendance at Sommersymfonien Valdres.

The project includes the following activities:

–       Master Classes with Stephan Barratt-Due

–       Master Classes with Alf Richard Kraggerud

–       Intensive course in Norwegian, as preparation for her year as exchange student starting autumn 2014


MAY (Hanoi): Partner meeting

Yearly meeting for all Vietnamese partners and representatives from the Norwegian resource group.


MAY (Ho Chi Minh City): Coaching and master classes

In addition to working with the HBSO, Forsvarets Musikk are also giving lectures, working with students and teachers from wind department at the Conservatory of HCMC.


APRIL (Ho Chi Minh City): English for Opera Singers

Paul Arlidge has developed an English language course for instrumental teachers and musicians in Vietnam.

As a preparation for the performance of “The Creation”, Paul Arlidge will work with with Ho Chi Minh City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra and Opera, enabling them to perfect their language skills before the performance .


APRIL (Hanoi): Vocal masterclass

Soprano Siri Torjesen holds masterclasses in singing in Hanoi.


APRIL (Hue): Drumming

SISU Percussion ensemble with percussion students and teachers from the HCMC Conservatory performs the percussion concert Drumming by Steve Reich at the Hue Festival, the largest music festival in Vietnam.

In addition, a program of Norwegian traditional music with the singer Øyonn Groven Myhren will be performed.

This is part of the long lasting competence-building program for percussion students at C-HCMC, leading up to the invitation to participate at the Hue Festival.


MARCH (Horten and Bergen): Flutists in Norway

Flutists Nguyên Truong Hoang Yên (22) and Pham Thi Thu Thao (20) from the Concervatory in Ho Chi Minh City take part in this year’s exchange with Forsvarets Musikk.
